Auf dem Schlossplatz wird ab Oktober 2008 die Temporäre Kunsthalle für die Dauer von zwei Jahren Schaufenster für zeitgenössische Kunst sein, die in Berlin entsteht und international Impulse gibt. Im Rahmen einer umfangreichen Kooperation mit der Temporären Kunsthalle Berlin wird die CAA diese private Initiative in den kommenden zwei Jahren aktiv unterstützen. Zur Besichtigung der ersten Außenbespielung durch Gerwald Rockenschaub laden wir Anfang September ein. Weitere Veranstaltungen in Kooperation mit der Temporären Kunsthalle Berlin folgen
Franz Anton Cramer, CAA-Experte für Tanz und u.a. Dozent am Hochschulübergreifenden Zentrum für Tanz in Berlin, erläutert die Grundlagen des modernen Tanzes und führt in die Highlights des Festivals Tanz im August ein, das vom 15. bis 31. August in Berlin stattfindet.
Invitation to visit the realized concept of Gerwald Rockenschaub for the facade of the Temporary Art Gallery. From mid-October 2008 for two years the Temporary Art Gallery will be a showcase for Contemporary Art from Berlin that gives impulses to the international art scene. At the beginning of september Gerwald Rockenschaub is realizing his concept for the first installation on the facade.
Franz Anton Cramer, CAA-Expert for Dance and lecturer at the comprehensive Academy for Contemporary Dance in Germany will give an introduction into the history of Dance beginning with the 20th century, and will show various forms of Contemporary Dance and Performance.

Contemporary American Art, curated by Collier Schorr
The renowned American artist Collier Schorr has organized a group-exhibition, which is a self-portrait and a survey of recent trends in American Art at the same time. Sometimes black and pervert, then again lucid and transcendent, the exponents chosen by Collier Schorr delineate a picture of today America.
Architect Alexander Schwarz (Chipperfield Berlin) is guiding through the new ArtSpace of Heiner Bastian at Kupfergraben.
Together with his Berlin team, managed by Alexander Schwarz and Martin Reichert, Chipperfield has „transferred this utility building into a obeisance to Prussian arcadia.“ (F.A.Z.).
Alexander Schwarz (Chipperfield Berlin) is guiding us through the construction of the New Museum. Different from many architects, Chipperfield was not satisfied with cosmetic correctives, but ventured a new beginning between modernist vision and careful restoration.
In regular intervals Berlin based artists will present to us the soundtrack of their lives and work in the PanAm Lounge. We are happy to announce the acceptance of Ralf Ziervogel to arrange the 1* CAA Club Lounge.
Ralf Ziervogel, born in 1975, studied at the UdK Berlin as stipendiary of German National Academic Foundation and the Karl-Schmitt-Rottluff-Foundation. Since 2004 he participated in internationl exhibitions. Ziervogels main medias are drawings, videos and installations. The talk with the artist will be moderated by D. Alexandra von Stosch.
In her Installation-Project The Heart of Darkness, a „visual poem“, Bettina WitteVeen is dealing photographically with the causes and consequences of war. The third exhibition of this cycle, Death and the Maiden, will be on display in Berlin from 3rd of May to 14th July 2008. The place of the exhibition, the basement vaults of the old Königstadt-Brewery in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg, is strikingly reflecting the themes of Bettina WitteVeens photography: In the second woldwar used as an air-raid shelter and an assembly hall for missiles, the exhibition is guiding its visitor through different roomes in the vault, in which the photographies complete themselves to an overall picture.
Bettina WitteVeen lives in Bali and New York City, where she already completed diffent art projects in collaboration with other artists like Robert Wilson.
We are happy to announce the invitation of Karsten Schmitz to attend to the circuit in the “Baumwollspinnerei” in Leipzig on the 1rst of may. CAA Friends and Promoters have been invited as VIP guests and can participate in the whole program unavailingly.
„The whole area of the Spinnerei is presenting itself in a new artdress: Under the theme – About Indefiniteness – HALLE 14 e.V. ist opening in corporation with Foundation Federkiel on the 1rst of May a new exhibition. In the Universal Cube the exhibition project “I still don´t have enough, your matt eyes” of the art university Linz opens. Furthermore I am happy, that the new partner of HALLE 14, the Columbus Art Foundation, will present itself on the same day with “Wollust, the presence of absence”. In addition all of you are invited to explore all the gallerys in the Spinnerei and their contemporary art and the 15 international gallerys in HALLE 12, which have been invited by the SpinnereiGalerien to the gallery project LADA“. Jens Casper, Co-founder of the Berlin bureau Realarchitektur, and the collector Christian Boros are presenting the altered 1930s air-raid shelter in Reinhardtstrasse, which will house Boros collection of contemporary art. Behind massive walls emerged unique rooms for exhibition and storage.
During the past years the situation of spaces for art has shifted from public institutions to private spaces of collectors. How are spaces for art created? Under which premises, with which visions, achievements and/or compromises? How does the dialogue between room providing architecture and art work? These are the questions being focused in the CAA Talks with the architects and private clients of the new ArtSpaces. We are talking to the architects and collectors on site.
After the interesting and insightful introduction to New Music by Dr. Margarete Zander, we are pleased about her offer to invite CAA Friends and Promoters to the concert of Carolin Widmann within the Ultraschall-Festival. With the german debut performance of Iannis Xenakis’ violin-concert a very high standard is applied to the festival. The visionary and engineer banished passion and soundflush in accurate and minute notation. A welcomed challenge to the succesful violinist Carolin Widmann.
Introduction to contemporary music by Dr. Margarete Zander (RBB Kulturradio).
Berlin profits from a lively scene of contemporary music, which in virtous experiments fathoms the boundaries of classic music even with regard to other disciplines like art and theater. CAA Academy will explore this often as difficult to access regarded field and enter into some questions: How does contemporary music function and what are the substructure to listen to it understandingly? A first inside look will provide an introduction with examples by Dr. Margarete Zander. As a musicologist, she is leading the division of contemporary music at RBB and co-organizer of Ultraschall-Festival, a festival dedicated to contemporary music. Dr. Margarete Zander is a CAA Expert and at CAA´s disposal in the field of music.
Talk with artist Via Lewandowsky at his Berlin studio
Via Lewandowsky, born 1963 in Dresden, lives and works in Berlin. He is known for his subtle images, collages, sculptures and installations, which often show an ironic commentary on political or social circumstances. Shortly after the fall of the Berlin wall he obtained a working stipend by PS1, New York and was honored with several international prizes and awards. His works are shown in internationally renowned collections. Currently a major sculpture, “Glaube/Zweifel” (Faith/Doubt), is displayed in the group show “Neue Heimat” (New Home/Country) at Berlinische Galerie (until Jan. 7. 1008). It features a card house, nine meter tall, consisting of exhibition walls with windows, and it raises the issue of “home” as a possible place of failure, thus playing with the perception of memory. Haus am Waldsee, Berlin will be the venue of a major retrospective of Via Lewandowsky’s work in August 2008.
Talk with Jeff Wall on Exposure, his exhibition at Deutsche Guggenheim Berlin
The internationally acclaimed photo artist Jeff Wall is renowned for his staged photographs investigating the historical relations between photography and painting, billboard art, film and video. In his carefully composed photographs usually presented in large light boxes, Jeff Wall stages scenes preferredly dealing with citizens living at the margins of society, reflecting social and racial conflicts. Deutsche Guggenheim commissioned four large silver-gelatin prints which will be at the core of the show. He will introduce us personally to his work.

Zeitgenössische amerikanische Kunst, kuratiert von Collier Schorr. Die renommierte amerikanische Künstlerin Collier Schorr hat eine Gruppenausstellung organisiert, die zugleich als Selbstporträt und als Bestandsaufnahme der aktuellsten Trends in der amerikanischen Kunst konzipiert ist. Bisweilen schwarz und pervers, dann wieder hell und transzendent, entwerfen die von Collier Schorr ausgewählten Exponate ein Bild des heutigen Amerika.
Alexander Schwarz (Chipperfield Berlin und leitender Architekt des Baus) führt durch das Galeriegebäude von Heiner Bastian am Kupfergraben.
Gemeinsam mit seinem Berliner Team, geleitet von Alexander Schwarz und Martin Reichert, hat David Chipperfield „diesen Nutzbau in eine Verbeugung vor dem preußischen Arkadien verwandelt“ (F.A.Z.).
Alexander Schwarz (Chipperfield Berlin) führt uns durch den Bau des Neuen Museums. Anders als viele Architekten hat sich Chipperfield nicht mit kosmetischen Korrekturen begnügt, sondern einen wirklich neuen Anfang zwischen moderner Vision und behutsamer Restaurierung gewagt.
In regelmäßigen Abständen stellen uns in Berlin lebende Künstler in der PanAm Lounge den Sound ihres Lebens und Arbeitens vor. Besonders freuen wir uns über die Zusage von Ralf Ziervogel, die 1* CAA Club Lounge mit seinem persönlichen Soundtrack zu gestalten. Der Künstler wird von Dr. Alexandra von Stosch vorgestellt.
Ralf Ziervogel wurde 1975 geboren, studierte bis 2005 an der UdK Berlin als Stipendiat der Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes und als Karl Schmidt-Rottluff-Stipendiat und ist seit 2004 an zahlreichen internationalen Ausstellungen beteiligt. Seine zentralen Medien sind die Zeichnung, das Video und die Installation, die mit Verweissystemen seiner Sozialisierung spielen.
In ihrem Installationsprojekte mit dem Titel The Heart of Darkness, einem „visuellen Gedicht“, setzt sich Bettina WitteVeen photographisch mit den Ursachen und Folgen des Krieges auseinander. Die dritte Ausstellung dieses Zyklus, Der Tod und das Mädchen, wird in Berlin vom 3. Mai bis zum 14. Juli 2008 zu sehen sein. Der Ort der Begegnung, die Kellergewölbe der alten Königstadt-Brauerei in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg, spiegelt die Thematik der Photographien Bettina WitteVeen eindrucksvoll wieder: Im zweiten Weltkrieg als Luftschutzbunker sowie als Montagehalle für Raketen genutzt, führt die Ausstellung den Besucher durch verschiedene Räume der Gewölbe, in denen sich die Photographien zu einem Gesamteindruck komplementieren.
Bettina WitteVeens setzt sich künstlerisch mit mythologischen Themen auseinander und versucht die Spuren historischer Ereignisse in den Menschen aufzudecken. Sie lebt auf Bali und in New York City, wo Sie schon mit Künstlern wie Robert Wilson ihre Kunstprojekte realisiert hat.
Wir freuen uns sehr über die großzügige Einladung der Leipziger Baumwollspinnerei im Namen von Karsten Schmitz an dem Rundgang in der Leipziger Baumwollspinnerei am 1. Mai 2008 teilzunehmen. Jens Casper, Mitbegründer des Berliner Büros Realarchitektur, präsentiert zusammen mit dem Sammler Christian Boros den für die Sammlung zeitgenössischer Kunst umgebauten Luftschutzbunker aus den 1930er Jahren in der Reinhardtstrasse. Es entstanden in den massiven Mauern einzigartige Magazin- und Ausstellungsräume.
October 26th: Visiting the Collection of Juerg Judin
Juerg Judin, collector and gallery owner, commissioned the architect team bfs d -bröer flachsbarth schultz and planbb brakel, to restore an old gas station and extend it with a glass facade in a part of Schöneberg, which is not exactly known as beeing very noble. There, he shows his art in a surrounding of the fifties.
Saturday, October 15th: Music Box
Dr. Katja Blomberg leads the friends and supporters through the exhibition “Music Box” by the Dutch artist-composer William Engelen at the Haus am Waldsee.
Chocolate bars, vacuum cleaner bag contents, rubber trees, diaries, stomach growling and weather data are the parameters of the compositions by William Engelen. The Dutch artist and composer designs his scores in the form of graphical notations. His work is often inspired by cultural memories of different levels of perception. They range from the “Big Bang” to chocolate dreams of everyones childhood. You use the weather data in the first decade of the early twentyfirst Century or capture the unconscious musicality of their own intestines.

The CAA Mentor-Scholarship supports up and coming artists in the fields of fine arts, theatre, music and dance relating to individual projects.
The CAA Mentor-Scholarship supports the scholar financially, artistically and with organizational skills. The scholar is accompanied by an expert specialized in his art field, who will support the development from an artistic view. A second Mentor from the circle of CAA friends and supporters is at the scholars disposal when planning and implementing the practical aspects of its artistic existence.By the integration into the CAA the scholar can profit from their network and use the access to collectors, institutions and economy.
The scholars are financially supported up to 900 € monthly, maximum supportive period is one year.The scholarship can be assigned to national and international artists, is however bound to the artistic realization in Berlin during the scholarship period.CAA friends and supporters obtain a detailed look into the scholars work in a presentation after the first half and after conclusion of the scholarship.
Submissions for the scholarship assignment take place by recommendations of experts from the respective promotion field and the CAA Board. Assignments which are submitted directly by the applicant must contain two reference letters of recognized representatives of the respective discipline. The assignment is carried out by jury decision consisting of the specialized Mentor, a curator of the respective field to be mentored and a member of the CAA board. The jury meets according to submissions status.
The CAA Mentor-Program is the consulting program of CAA friends and supporters, who offer practical assistance as Mentors for individual artists or projects.
The Mentors donate their time and their specialized knowledge in various fields, such as legal advice, tax consultation or agency services and help with the search for rehearsal rooms, studios, workstations or stages.
In the CAA Mentor-program honorary and private commitments are combined and specific assistance and support for new upcoming artists is possible.
For the assignment of scholarships and project related means of support the CAA board is supported by experts from the respective fields of mentoring. These experts recommend artists for the CAA Mentor-Scholarship and are members of the interdisciplinary jury for the CAA project based support program. They are closely connected to the new generation of contemporary artists in Berlin and provide their specific knowledge to the CAA.
Nach der spannenden und aufschlussreichen Einführung von Dr. Margarete Zander in die Neue Musik freuen wir uns sehr über ihr Angebot, die Mitglieder der CAA kostenlos zum Konzert mit Carolin Widmann im Rahmen des Ultraschall Festivals einzuladen.
Mit der deutschen Erstaufführung von Iannis Xenakis’ Violinkonzert wird der Maßstab für diese Aufführung hoch gesteckt. Der Ingenieur und Visionär bannte in winziger, präziser Notenschrift Leidenschaft und Klangrausch. Eine willkommene Herausforderung für die erfolgreiche Geigerin Carolin Widmann.
In Berlin gibt es eine lebendige Szene zeitgenössischer Musik, die in virtuosen Experimenten die Grenzen der klassischen Musikerfahrung auch im Hinblick auf andere Disziplinen wie bildende Kunst und Theater auslotet und zu spannenden Ergebnissen führt. Die CAA Academy will sich diesem für viele schwer zugänglichen Bereich annähern und den Fragen nachgehen: Wie funktioniert zeitgenössische Musik und was sind die Grundlagen, um zeitgenössische Musik verstehend zu hören? Einen ersten Zugang zur Neuen Musik bietet die Einführungsveranstaltung mit Musikbeispielen durch Dr. Margarete Zander. Sie ist Musikwissenschaftlerin, leitet den Bereich zeitgenössische Musik des RBB, steht der CAA als Expertin im Bereich Musik zur Verfügung und ist Ko-Organisatorin des Ultraschall-Festivals vom 18.-28.01.2008 in Berlin.
Via Lewandowsky, geb. 1963 in Dresden, lebt und arbeitet in Berlin. Er ist bekannt für seine subtilen Bilder, Collagen, Skulpturen und Installationen, die oft einen ironischen Kommentar zu zeitgenössischen politischen oder sozialen Entwicklungen darstellen. Kurz nach dem Zusammenbruch der Berliner Mauer erhielt Lewandowsky ein Arbeitsstipendium des PS1, New York sowie mehrere internationale Preise. Seine Arbeiten werden in internationalen Sammlungen gezeigt. Das Haus am Waldsee, Berlin, widmet dem Künstler eine umfassende Retrospektive im August 2008.
Der renommierte Photokünstler Jeff Wall ist für seine inszenierten Photographien bekannt, welche die historischen Relationen zwischen der Photographie, Malerei, Film und Video in Frage stellen. In seinen großen oft in Lichtboxen präsentierten Photographien beschäftigt sich Jeff Wall u.a. mit Sinnbildern modernen Lebens, so unter anderem mit Formen urbaner Landschaften als Ausdruck maroder sozialer Strukturen. Den Kern der Ausstellung Jeff Wall: Belichtung bilden vier Auftragsarbeiten, die im Deutschen Guggenheim erstmalig zu sehen sein werden. Die Silbergelatineabzüge sind bis ins Detail inszeniert und durchkomponiert, und dabei meist auf der Straße und nicht im Studio aufgenommen. Walls Auftragszyklus zieht Parallelen zur Entwicklung und sozialen Tendenz der Dokumentarfotografie und zur Geschichte des neorealistischen Films. Ergänzt werden diese Arbeiten durch Fotografien und Farbleuchtkästen aus den Jahren 2001/2002.
