Jelinek's "Angabe der Person" at Deutschen Theater
31/03–19:30H

"Jelinek at her best. A signature text. Jossi Wieler brings it to life in Berlin with three fantastic actresses in such a unified and emphatic way that you could have heard a pin drop in the stalls at the premiere, so concentrated was the audience, enraptured by the virtuosos Fritzi Haberlandt, Linn Reusse and Susanne Wolff. This created an enchanting feeling of community, in other words, what theater is all about in the best sense of the word: one room, one breath, one audience - and everyone listening spellbound to someone who has something to say (to them). No wonder the cheers were great at the end." - Christine Dössel / Sueddeutsche Zeitung Weiterlesen

Sasha Waltz's "Beethoven 7" at Radialsystem
10/02–20H

A choreography by Sasha Waltz to the music of Ludwig van Beethoven's 7th Symphony as well as to a commissioned work by the contemporary composer Diego Noguera. In "Beethoven 7", Sasha Waltz and an ensemble of 13 dancers dedicate themselves to the complete "Symphony No. 7 in A major (op. 92)". To the electronic sounds of Diego Noguera entitled "Freedom/Extasis", which are created during the creation process, the choreographer continues to spin threads and thoughts that already play a role in Beethoven's 7th symphony in the 21st century and searches for a current answer to pressing questions of the composer. Studio visit Monica Bonvicini
02/03–16:30H

Studio visit with Monica Bonvicini at UferHallen in Wedding. Until April 30, the Neue Nationalgalerie is showing a comprehensive solo exhibition of the artist's influential work. Titled "I do You," the show features site-specific installation and sculptural works from Bonvicini's oeuvre. The artworks often employ language and text, humor and irony, at times boldly explicit, pushing and subverting institutional boundaries and questioning the role of the viewer. Her work can be found in numerous private as well as public collections, such as MOMA in N.Y., Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Zurich, and Museo d'Arte Contemporanea Castello di Rivoli, Turin. We look forward to a personal conversation to gain a deeper insight into her working methods. Weiterlesen

"Ophelia´s Got Talent" by Florentina Holtzinger
17/11–19H

Visiting "Ophelia's Got Talent" by Florentina Holtzinger at the Volksbühne on November 17. An exuberant show, frothy and glittery, dangerous and trashy, deep and delightfully shameless. The huge Volksbühne stage shows what it can do: carries gigantic pools of water and makes airplanes fall out of the sky. There's just about everything you can imagine on the subject of water - and above all masses of male fantasies reconquered by naked women. Afterwards, we meet the dramaturge Johanna Kobusch for a follow-up discussion in the Volksbühne's canteen. Weiterlesen

CAA Academy // Visit of the exhibitions Rebecca Raue / Nasan Tur
05/18-3:30PM

Visit of the manor house Steglitz and the Schwartzsche Villa. Rebecca Raues exhibition "Notes on the Verge of Time" shows works which take a close look at conventional images of femininity and masculinity, using paintings of the past to show a forward-looking vision of equality. "I like the position on the edge, because it suggests an "Inbetween" - one foot here, one foot there - as well as a connecting element. It is thrilling to be balancing at that position and to be seeing how I can retain and communicate the great variety. I would say, the edge is a good position for art." (Rebecca Raue) In his video installation "Back and Forth", Nasan Tur examines the vulnerability of institutions which are higly important in a democracy - journalism and politics - and investigates the role of political participation and the defence of basic democratic values. "This process is a back and forth between the disappearance and restoration of something, between forgetting and remembering. What is important? Which decisions do I make in my life - and who do I want to be? Tanz im August / La Veronal
29/08–19:00H

A cave as an allegory of hell: in their new work, ‘Voronia’, La Veronal, the Barcelona based company led by Marcos Morau, go in search of the concept of evil. Their investigation takes them into the bowels of the earth, into the deepest cavern in the world, the Krubera-Voronia cave in the Georgian Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia. The cave is portrayed as a Dantean hell, a state of eternal descent. The company invokes the philosophies of St. Augustine by stating that, in the same way that darkness is the absence of light, evil is the absence of good – a matter of categorization only of interest to humans. According to La Veronal, humanity created God to secure the boundaries of morality; God serves as the keeper of goodness and a moral refuge for humankind. But in the hands of God’s stewards, religion has gone to seed. Weiterlesen

Koki Tanaka - A Vulnerable Narrator
25/03–19:00H

The Japanese artist Koki Tanaka references the history of “art activism” And views his work as a gentle sustainable approach to this movement. His “Artist of the Year” exhibition, “A Vulnerable Narrator,” at the Deutsche Bank KunstHalle in Berlin is a laboratory of sorts, one that ties together a decade's worth of projects, ideas, and documents. It traces Tanaka's path from early experiments with mass-produced goods and materials, to his collaborative actions and performances. Above all, Tanaka is interested in the question of how sensitive and open we are to the everyday objects that surround us, and how we might develop new relationships to them. Weiterlesen

12/12–19:30H

Theatre critics have announced that the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin which is under the direction of Shermin Langhoff and Jens Hillje has been named the theatre of the year. We are looking forward to the joint visit to the performance of "Common Ground". Yael Ronen researched his actors and produced biographies for them. Many of them were children in the 90s during the war in Yugoslavia - they were children of both perpetrators and victims. Subsequently, she decided to go to Yugoslavia with them to see various war scenes - the "common ground". Their performance was completely improvised. It never pointed the finger or remained conventional and it is performed without fear of great emotion, pain or laughter. Following the presentation, we have the opportunity to talk with the actors and the dramaturge of the play moderated by Barbara Burckhardt, Editor-in Theater heute and CAA expert for contemporary theatre. Studio and exhibition program "A Journey of Belonging" (2017 & 2019)

Within the framework of an exhibition, which is conceived as a sales exhibition, the artists are to come into contact with the art scene in Germany, build networks and strengthen their economic perspectives. The focus of the exhibition is on the current situation and the future of artists in our society. The associated studio grant and mentoring program offers up to ten artists the opportunity to move into their studio at Bikini Berlin for four weeks. With "A Journey of Belonging - Part II" the artists address the theme of belonging on a political, emotional, aesthetic, social or territorial level. The works revolve around attributions of identity to oneself and to others, which are reflected in creative confrontations with belonging and demarcation. "A Journey of Belonging - Part II" thus continues the artistic exploration of the 2017 exhibition on the current refugee situation and expands it to include themes of participation and self-assurance. www.ajourneyofbelonging.de/artists Weiterlesen

BANZ & BOWINKEL

Giulia Bowinkel and Friedemann Banz form the Berlin artist duo Banz & Bowinkel. In their work, Banz & Bowinkel deal with the computer as an everyday medium and its influence on humans. The focus is on the perception of the world, which humans understand as reality and which can now be simulated with the help of the computer. With their work, Banz & Bowinkel question the concept of simulated reality and, by extension, the human perception of the world in virtual space. Weiterlesen

EVELYN BENCICOVA

Evelyn's Bencicova's works are never quite what they seem at first glance. Her photographs depict meticulous compositions that are characterized by an aesthetic sterility while being imbued with poetic undertones of timeless longing. Bencicova constructs narrative scenarios that blur the boundaries between reality, memory, and imagination. They are "fictions based on truth." By portraying multifaceted, realistic-looking realities as illusions, Bencicova tests viewers* perceptions, luring them into the labyrinth of their imaginations. Her disconcertingly beautiful imagery and washed-out color palette, embedded in strangely symbolic environments, allow for a deep engagement with the themes that take her works and paintings far beyond what they reveal at first glance. PATRICIA DETMERING

Patricia Detmering combines personal memories with artistic means and philosophical references to create complex media installations. To do this, she uses digital media such as 3D animations and live simulations, often displayed in immersive environments. These installations consist of found objects, sculptures, paintings, and drawings that are integrated into the overarching narrative. In her recent work, she attempts to blur the fine line between the digital and analog worlds, pushing both to the edge of their dissolution. In her search for unknown narrative modes, she is currently exploring virtual reality in combination with artificial intelligence. Weiterlesen

ARMIN KEPLINGER

Armin Keplinger works primarily with digital image creation, process-oriented installations and kinetic sculptures. In doing so, he brings together visual and auditory impulses to create an overwhelming, immersive unity. Drastic changes of form, material and dimension and the resulting possibility to intervene on the viewer's perception have always fascinated him. In Virtual Reality, Armin Keplinger sees a new platform to effectively realize visions. Under the complete control of light and movement without physical dependencies, this digital format allows him a great degree of direct freedom of implementation. In his works, he repeatedly establishes dystopian scenarios and settings that have the potential for their extinction. His visual language is minimalist and balances between abstraction and realism. LAUREN MOFFATT

Lauren Moffatt is an Australian artist working with video, performance and immersive technologies. In her work, she explores the invisible aspects of experience and makes them tangible for visitors. She is particularly interested in how subjective experiences and perceptions - e.g. feelings, memories or ideas - can be shifted into virtual space, where they can be shown and made tangible. This often results in virtual environments in which visitors can interact with different levels and thus explore the narrative. Their detailed paradoxical worlds are often populated by outsiders, strange devices, and artifacts. close Weiterlesen

CAA Acts // Performance installation - SUGAR FOREVER

Invitation to the performance "Sugar Forever" vby Fadi al Hamwi on occasion of the Gallery Weekend Berlin on April 26th and 27th within the context of our exhibition "A Journey of Belonging - Part II". Fadi al Hamwis installation work "Sugar Forever" is growing since 10 days in our Bikini Berlin exhibition studio and reflects al Hamwis idea of belonging. In her installations, Wildt is combining video, photography, performance, objects and collage from which she emulates spaces of experiences which are informative and aesthetic at the same time. In her upcoming project, the artist will engage into the theme of public grief, taking Antigone as a historical and contemporary starting point to explore tragedy.
